Law Enforcement Action Kit (LEAK)

Traffic crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. One of the most effective ways in which teen drivers, ages 15-20, can prevent injury and death in a motor vehicle crash is to wear a seat belt, but a large number of teens still fail to buckle up. That's why in an effort to save more lives, state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies in Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Oklahoma and Texas actively enforce state seat belt laws year-round to help ensure that everyone, including teens, always wear their seat belts when driving or riding in a motor vehicle.

Teen Seat Belt Law Enforcement Resource Kit
May 23-June 5, 2011 Click It or Ticket Enforcement

Annually, there are an estimated 5,000,000 police-reported motor vehicle traffic crashes, resulting in over 30,000 fatalities and 2,000,000 injuries. More than half of the passenger vehicle occupants killed were not wearing seat belts at the time of the fatal crashes.

Please join this year's enforcement mobilization of the Click It or Ticket campaign. Get involved by applying a zero-tolerance policy for all motorists caught not wearing seat belts, making certain that unbuckled drivers and passengers are ticketed and fined. In 2009, seat belts saved an estimated 12,713 lives across the nation. With your help, even more can be saved. Through increased high-visibility seat belt enforcement, awareness activities, and earned media, you can help prevent tragic and untimely deaths of motorists in your city and state.
